The California State Summer School for Mathematics and Science (COSMOS) is a four week residential and academic program for highly motivated high school students that occurs each summer here at UC Santa Cruz.
Students apply to specific academic “clusters” to do research projects in STEM related fields with outstanding UC Santa Cruz faculty, as well as experience a college-like atmosphere while they stay in the dorms during the program.
Admission to COSMOS is very competitive; we only admit about one-third of all applicants and nearly half of the admitted students have a GPA of 4.0 or above. For those who are invited to attend, paying the tuition and fees presents another obstacle.
Each year we offer financial aid packages that either cover a percentage or the entire tuition based on financial need. Some students still need to pay for the remaining balance of their tuition.
This year we’ve offered financial aid packages to 30% of our admitted students and awarded $141,371 in total aid. However, there are 5 students who each need an additional $1,000 of financial aid in order to attend COSMOS this summer. COSMOS does not have additional funds to help these students.
Please help us bridge the $5,000 financial gap in order to provide access to these high achieving students. Make a gift TODAY to make this dream a reality for the remaining 5 students. Any funds raised after the $5,000 goal will be used to recruit students from underprivileged and underrepresented backgrounds.
