Hello, we are team O-Vac a group of four Computer Engineering Students at the University of California Santa Cruz working in collaboration with the long Marine Lab to create an Ocean Floor Sediment Collection Device. Our device will autonomously descend to the Ocean Floor and collect sediment samples along with other valuable data points for researchers to analyze. The current techniques for collecting these samples are inefficient and time-consuming. The goal of our project is to provide a simple, low-cost alternative. Our device utilizes a standard scuba tank to control its buoyancy as well as provide the suction needed to collect the sediment samples.
In order to make this project a reality we need your help. and together we can enable researchers to more accurately collect the data they need to monitor the health and biodiversity of our local Ocean Environment. Thank you for your support!
