Thanks to your help, great progress has been made on sequencing my genome! A team of 17 graduate students learned about genome assembling technology and laid the groundwork for the banana slug genome sequencing efforts. Due to the fact that there are no related organisms that have their DNA sequenced, the team had to begin piecing the genome together from scratch. This is a lengthy process and the students were unable to complete the work in just one quarter. Staying true to banana slug values, the hardworking students continued efforts over the summer and will meet weekly with Kevin Karplus to finish assembling the genome.
