Progress Report

September 24, 2015

Thanks to your help, great progress has been made on sequencing my genome! A team of 17 graduate students learned about genome assembling technology and laid the groundwork for the banana slug genome sequencing efforts. Due to the fact that there are no related organisms that have their DNA sequenced, the team had to begin piecing the genome together from scratch. This is a lengthy process and the students were unable to complete the work in just one quarter. Staying true to banana slug values, the hardworking students continued efforts over the summer and will meet weekly with Kevin Karplus to finish assembling the genome. To learn more about what was accomplished during the class, please read our progress report and check out the team’s wiki page. Stay tuned for more updates soon!

We're on our way! (And we're getting some extra help!)

October 30, 2014

Sammy here, I just wanted to take a moment and thank you for all of your gifts - you rock!

We are currently just shy of $3,000, but we have also drawn in an immense amount of interest for this project.

Alumni Ken and Branwyn Wagman, along with their fellow slug Leslie Grate and his wife, have come together and are offering a great match challenge!

They will be matching gifts two-to-one, tripling the impact of all future gifts.

If we raise another $6,250 these stellar banana slug lovers will give $12,500.

Take this opportunity to engage your friends and get them involved too!

As if my video was not enough press, I am also making an appearance on our news page! A whole article dedicated to me, what could be better? Check it out here and share, share, share!

Thank you again my loyal slugs, I can’t wait to have my genome sequenced.

-Sammy

We're getting close!

November 04, 2014

Thank you for all of your help on this project so far! We are excited to say that we are on our way to meeting the amazing match opportunity we have been provided; we only have $1,700 to go. Please share with all of your friends and hep us finish our efforts to sequence Sammy!

Only $370 To Go

November 07, 2014

Thanks to you we're getting close to reaching our goal of being able to map the banana slug genome! Your gift and efforts in sharing this project are paying off and we are so close to having the funding to map the banana slug genome.

We are now $370 away from making the $12,500 match provided by alumni Ken and Branwyn Wagman, along with their fellow slug Leslie Grate and his wife.

Please continue to share the Banana Slug Genome Project with your networks and let's see if we can fund the match today!

Because of you we received the match!

November 07, 2014

With your help, we just received a $12,500 match from alumni Ken and Branwyn Wagman and alumnus Leslie Grate and his wife, Lou Grate, to map the banana slug genome.

With their match in place, we are now only $300 from meeting the $20,000 project goal. We're almost there!

We did it!

November 10, 2014

Thanks to your generous help, we did it: We raised $20k and will be sequencing the Banana Slug Genome! This is so exciting for all of us slugs, and wouldn’t have been possible without you.

If you or your friends still want to get involved, it’s not too late! With additional funding, we would be able to have a TA for the slug genomics class and provide a deeper student experience by exposing the students to more types of genomic data and analysis.

Thank you again for supporting this exciting project and helping to figure out the mysteries of our mascot.

Thanks for helping us with this project!
