The UC Santa Cruz Sailing Team participates in the Pacific Coast Collegiate Sailing Conference, travelling to regattas and competing all over the greater Pacific Coast. We are a small team, but have made great accomplishments with the resources we have, including qualifying for the Pacific Coast Championships for the past three years running. We have also competed in several prestigious events, such as the Western Canada Cup, Canada’s largest International regatta.
The Sailing Team provides UC Santa Cruz students the opportunity to be part of a supportive community, have fun, represent the university at international competitions, and pursue their passions.
The funding we receive from UC Santa Cruz, team dues, and our current fundraising efforts allow us to travel and participate in various regattas. However, we have very little left over to perform maintenance on our fleet, much less purchase new boats. Our team often finishes in the top 10 when we charter boats for away regattas, but when we use our own boats closer to home, there is a distinct drop in results. In order to stay competitive, our fleet requires improvement.
This is why the UC Santa Cruz Sailing Team needs your help! Our newest boats are over ten years old, so we are challenging our community to come together to help us purchase a new $7,700 CFJ sail boat, as well as make $1,000 worth of repairs to our current equipment to keep us safe on the water. With your help, we can stay safe, competitive, and include more students on our team.
